Although the country is looking forward to higher generation and distribution of power supply, there is a rise being recorded in the number of diesel Generator Sets being used in the country.
By all estimates, the capacity of diesel power generator sets has seen a rise of round 5,000 megawatts (MW) every year for the past couple of years. This increment has surprised many for the reason that in the past few years the government has been trying to increase power throughout the grid. The power exchanges in the country are trading at lower rates when compared to their prior performance.
As per experts, this rise in the number of Generator Sets has come due to erratic power supply and unreliable grids in many places. This has also to do with bad power distribution. Many event management companies which organize parties and functions like wedding etc. need generators regularly. Most Generator Sets are mostly operated for a few hours during the day so as to overcome power shortages and roistering.
For most, the rise in the sales of Generator Sets is a solution to the power distribution problems. The whole country is slowly moving towards better power generation and supply. This will take a while to show up in practice and until then, this is the best option for power back up. Besides, many believe that the rise of new housing projects, societies, factories and manufacturing units have put an impetus on power demand. This is one of the reasons for power shortage despite so much generation and the reason behind the sales of so many Generator Sets.
The estimates on the figure become important when seen against the country’s complete generation capacity of 3,30,260.53 MW along the data put together by authorities. This figure does not include the capacity of installed diesel Generator Sets.
It seems that during the hour of development and turmoil, a large segment of people are bracing for instability and also keeping the development spree alive by investing in diesel generators and fuel to bypass the short and need of power in the country.
